A pen and ink drawing of a serene but slightly chubby Mark E Smith of The Fall. Probably drawn with The Sound Projector music magazine in mind, but I don’t think it was ever used.

Marker pen portraits of Mark E Smith, Elini Poulou, Ben Pritchard and Peter Greenway who were all members of musical group The Fall at one time or another. Based mainly on gig photos posted on the Fall forum by various fans of the band. Drawn in 2009 while preparing for the Paintwork exhibitions in Berlin and London.
This Friday, I joined Ed Pinsent on The Sound Projector Radio Show to curate a tribute to my musical and personal hero, Mark E Smith, who died this week. You can hear it on the Sound Projector site.

All tracks by The Fall, except #10 by Von Südenfed
Last Friday, I was the guest presenter on Ed Pinsent’s Sound Projector radio show on Resonance FM. This week’s theme was the music of The Fall, and specifically the music of its current and longest lasting incarnation. Podcast and playlist here.
The show included a featurette on singer Mark E Smith’s adaptations of ‘The Spider and The Fly’, a track by The Monocles which is familiar to fans of ’60s garage music thanks to the compilation Pebbles volume 3: The Acid Gallery. It turns out The Monocles were a real band, not a studio invention: find out more this interview with one of the members.
